Our facility in Burlington, ON, is focused on the development and production of bioreactors, photobioreactors and advanced machineries for cellular agriculture and precision fermentation. Our integrated R&D center within the same facility is an Ontario hub for innovation in bioprocess design and optimization, plant-based engineering, food technology and scaled alternative protein production.


As a member of the Canadian team, the primary function of the Mechanical Engineer is to develop, design, build, and test stainless steel vessels and impellers. Experience working with fermenters is a key skillset.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of bioreactor vessels by translating design documentation into specifications and parts lists
  • Provide input and qualifications for vessel materials selection
  • Confirm system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods; testing properties.
  • Develop mechanical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; soliciting observations from operators.
  • Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
  • Assuring system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; requesting special services.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Job Requirements

  • University Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with design and conceptualization of pressure vessels preferred
  • Experience working in a rapidly scaling industrial manufacturing or biotechnology environment
  • Demonstrated experience with stainless steel vessels for food processing, bioreactors, fermenters, etc., an asset
  • Strong knowledge of best practices and relevant systems and software for mechanical engineering. Familiarity with product systems an asset.
  • Effective communicator in both written and verbal correspondence as well as an effective presenter.
  • Detail oriented and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Personal initiative, innovation and leadership skills in setting and achieving goals
  • Highly motivated, driven and results oriented
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced manufacturing operation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively solve problems both on an individual and collaborative approach.
